Pine Crest Upper School Social Entrepreneurship students recently traveled to Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee to compete in the Diamond Challenge.
The Diamond Challenge is the world’s top-rated entrepreneurship competition for high school students. The competition was created through Horn Entrepreneurship, the creative engine for entrepreneurship education and advancement at the University of Delaware. Teams from around the world pitched their social innovations and business models to industry leaders.
The Challenge began with 3000 teams from more than 126 countries. After the first round of the competition, five Pine Crest teams were chosen to pitch their products and services in front of a live panel of judges at Battle Ground Academy.
Georgia Kolettis ’27, Edward Wang ’27, Alexa Marino ’27 and Alejandro Forner-Ibanez ’27 of team HeadStart won first place in the Business Innovation Competition and will advance to the Diamond Challenge Limitless World Summit to compete against the 50 top teams in the world. Their product uses machine learning and predictive modeling to anticipate migraines by analyzing a user’s baseline physiological data. Through photoplethysmography (PPG) signals, the wearable device and software track subtle changes in blood flow, heart rate variability and other biometric indicators to identify early patterns associated with migraine onset.
Nikhil Chawla ’28, Andrea Cervantes-Flores ’28, Aiden Green ’28 and Charles Lindsay ’28 of Team HerdHealth were named runners-up in the Social Innovation Competition. Their venture focuses on improving livestock health by detecting Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV) in cattle through a rapid antigen test. This diagnostic solution enables early identification of infection, allowing farmers and veterinarians to respond quickly, reduce herd transmission and improve overall herd health management.
Congratulations to all!
