Pine Crest Middle School students have earned national honors in the 2026 National Chinese Speech Contest, a highly competitive program that showcases excellence in Mandarin language proficiency and cultural understanding.
Max Wakefield ’30 earned third place nationwide for the second consecutive year, an exceptional accomplishment in a field of top student competitors from across the country. The contest spans multiple rounds of competition, evaluating participants on language fluency, pronunciation, presentation skills and cultural insight.
Also representing Pine Crest, James Galant ’32 received Honorable Mention for Content, delivering a standout performance as a sixth-grade student competing in a combined grades six through eight division.
The National Chinese Speech Contest challenges students to demonstrate not only technical language ability but also confidence, preparation and depth of understanding.
