Upper School Awards & Achievements

The 2021 edition of the Pine Crest Upper School yearbook, the Crestian, has earned recognition from the Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA), the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), and the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists.

The Crestian’s 75th volume titled “When Everything is TBD, We Remain Determined,” earned All-Florida status by the FSPA, the highest recognition conferred in Florida.

The NSPA awarded the book First Class with Marks of Distinction for Essentials, Coverage, and Writing & Editing, the highest number of marks of distinction the Crestian has ever received from this national organization.

The NSPA also recognized 41 students in the 2021 Journalism Honor Roll, the highest number of students recognized with this honor in Pine Crest School history.

Additionally, the book received 18 awards from Quill and Scroll, an International Honor Society for High School Journalists. Out of the awards received, three are national awards for the entire Crestian staff: second place for Photography, third place for Design, and third place for Writing. The other 15 awards were for individual work in 13 categories.

The individual awards included five national first places: Personality Profiles Writing for Jolie Albinder ’22, Design of Academic Spread for Ana Bordin ’21, Sports Feature Writing for Emilia García Uribe ’22, Clubs and Organizations Writing for Grace Hancock ’22, and Photo Illustration for Haley Strauch '21.

“Our print journalism program keeps growing and getting stronger,” said Mrs. Patty Gómez, Advisor of the publication. “I'm proud of our team of enthusiastic young journalists who produced the last book in a hybrid learning environment and successfully covered a challenging year. Our students would not be able to fly this high without Dr. Markham's guiding vision and the support of the entire community.”
