Two Pine Crest Middle School students have advanced to the final round of the 2026 National Chinese Speech Contest, a prestigious national competition that showcases student achievement in Mandarin language and cultural understanding.
James Galant ’32 and Max Wakefield ’30 were selected as finalists in the Grades six through eight World Language Program Group, placing them among the top Chinese language students from across the country.
The competition requires extensive preparation, including crafting and delivering original speeches in Mandarin aligned with this year’s theme, “Mandarin Chinese: A Bridge Across Cultures.” Finalists are selected through a highly competitive process that evaluates language proficiency, content, delivery and cultural insight.
The national finals will take place on April 18, where students will present their speeches before a panel of judges.
Congratulations to James and Max!
