Pine Crest Upper School art students recently participated in “The Memory Project,” a global youth arts initiative that promotes intercultural understanding and kindness through portrait-making.

Students created portraits and life illustrations for their pen pals in Malawi.

Watch the children receive their portraits here.

This is the first year Pine Crest students participated in the project, which connects young artists with children around the world who are facing significant challenges. Through this exchange, students not only used their talents to make a meaningful impact but also developed a deeper appreciation for global connection and empathy through the arts.

Participating Pine Crest student-artists included:
Caterina Farrell ’26, who created five portraits and showed extraordinary commitment to the project, along with Audrey Rao ’27, Raina Friedman ’26, Leo Hauser ’26, Amelie Flory-Struzer ’25, Maya Todorov ’26, Lauren Hayes ’26 and Ariela Tejeda ’27.

“The Memory Project” began with the idea of creating handmade portraits as lasting keepsakes for children in orphanages. Its mission has expanded to reaching youth around the world, sharing kindness across cultures and encouraging young artists to use their creativity as a force for good.

Pine Crest is proud of our student artists for sharing their talent and heart on a global stage.
