The Pine Crest Middle School robotics team from the Boca Raton campus recently competed at the VEXIQ World Championships.
Team 78336A, “The Panthers,” was one of only a few teams from the South Florida Region invited to compete. Over three days, The Panthers teamed up with students from 11 different teams with the goal of working together to score the most possible points in this year’s Rapid Relay challenge. The Panthers were teamed up with students from South Korea, China, Hong Kong, AustraliaCalifornia, Texas and Florida.
“The team performed at the highest level of their season,” said Mr. Kris Swanson, Pine Crest Computer Science and Technology Specialist and Robotics Coach. “Their robot functioned flawlessly, and their driving and loading skills showed off the hours and hours of practice that they put in throughout the season and especially in the past two months leading up to the World Championships.”
The Panthers’ humble, kind and respectful treatment of their partner teams, along with how they interacted with other teams and the adults refereeing and judging the competition, earned them the Math Division Sportsmanship Award.
“Qualifying for the World Championships was a significant achievement for the team,” said Mr. Swanson. “Furthermore, receiving the Sportsmanship award reflects the values upheld at Pine Crest School. We are all very proud of the team!”
Congratulations to Tylar Bakalar ’31, Maxwell Bogner ’31, Jayden Paterson ’31, Austin White ’31, Juan Yoshikay ’31 and Jared Hamby ’31.
