Nov 27 - Nov 29
Pine Crest Middle School engineering students competed at the EnergyWiz competition recently.
The event, known for its focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. Pine Crest students competed in three exciting categories: Solar Cooker, Junior Solar Sprint and Energy Inspired Art.
In the Solar Cooker category, students showcased their creativity and engineering skills by designing and building solar-powered cookers capable of harnessing the sun's energy to cook food. Students worked hard to optimize their designs for maximum efficiency. While the competition was intense, Pine Crest students demonstrated impressive ingenuity and problem-solving abilities throughout the process.
The Junior Solar Sprint challenged participants to design and race solar-powered vehicles, testing both their engineering capabilities and understanding of renewable energy. Pine Crest students raced their self-built solar cars in a thrilling series of heats, demonstrating their knowledge of solar power, aerodynamics and mechanical design. Their teamwork and technical expertise were evident, as many teams produced innovative, fast and efficient solar cars.
The Energy Inspired Art category allowed students to explore the theme of energy sustainability through visual art. Pine Crest students created stunning pieces that not only displayed artistic flair but also incorporated sustainable concepts, raising awareness about renewable energy sources. Their artwork captivated the judges and showcased a unique intersection of creativity and environmental consciousness.
While the results of each category were closely contested, the students' passion for sustainable energy solutions shone through in every event. Pine Crest's participation in the Energy Whiz competition highlighted the depth of talent and enthusiasm among the students in the Competitive Engineering elective, and they should be proud of their efforts and achievements.
Congratulations to all!
