Pine Crest Boca Raton campus Lower and Middle School student-engineers competed in the Stiles-Nicholson STEM Inventor's Challenge hosted by the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium recently.

Two teams of Lower School students competed in the Challenge as part of the 3D printing after-school enrichment program. They are Team PLS (Pia Severin ’28, Lucan Mugica ’28, and team mentor, Savanna Osei ’26) and Team JESA (Jaden Guerra ’28, Erika Diaz-Padua ’28, Sofia Hernandez ’28 and Ava Jarow ’28).

Two Middle School teams also competed as part of their Engineering elective. They are Team 1 (Lauren Hayes ’26, Petra Coleman ’26, and Tillie Pepos-Lebrun ’26) and Team 2 (Adam Talano ’25, Ashwin Chawla ’25, and Gabe Duarte ’25).

All teams shared two challenges: to build a boat to hold as many pennies as possible, no larger than 100x100x100cm, and to invent something that will improve someone's life.

In addition, the two Middle School teams had a remix challenge where they had to use an existing 3D printed object supplied by the challenge designers, and turn it into something else. Their final challenge was to make something that would be useful to a student who is participating in distance learning.

Each of the teams placed as follows:

Lower School Division

Penny Boat Challenge First Place - Team JESA (242 pennies)

Best Invention Overall First Place - Team JESA

Best Invention Overall Third Place - Team PLS

Middle School Division

Best Invention Overall First Place - Team 1

Best Invention Overall Second Place - Team 2

Congratulations!
