Upper School Awards & Achievements

Pine Crest Upper School student-journalist, Alexandra Giorno ’19 has been awarded the Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA) Jill Maassen Scholarship.

Alex, as she is better known, is one of 15 recipients of the scholarship, which covers the expenses of attending the FSPA 2019 State Convention.

Alex has also been accepted to present a session on Organization and Data Management at the State Convention this coming April.

There will be a total of 78 presenters from across the State at the convention this year, and Alex is one of nine students selected to present alongside experts in the field. There are already more than 1,400 Florida students registered to attend the event.

“I have seen Alex work at full speed as Managing Editor of The Crestian [Upper School Yearbook] since her junior year, and now as Editor-in-Chief in her senior year,” said Mrs. Patty Gomez, Yearbook Faculty Sponsor, and Upper School Spanish Instructor. “Alex applies her creative power, mature organizational skills, and productive work habits to succeed and help others do so. She has managed two teams of more than 70 Upper School students in the production of the last two editions of the yearbook. Alex's contributions to our Yearbook program these last two years are substantial. She keeps everyone moving forward. I'm incredibly proud of her.”

Congratulations, Alex!
