Pine Crest Girls’ Cross Country Team Earns Regional Championship Title

The Pine Crest School girls’ cross country team earned the regional championship for the seventh year in a row. They will now advance to the state championship meet.
The team won the title by a 30-point margin of victory over the second place team. The girls will advance to the state championship for the 11th time in the last 12 years. In addition, four girls placed in the top 15. The girls’ team is the two-time defending state champion, and have been state champions or state runners-up consecutively over the last six years.
Individually, Tsion Yared ’20 won the regional title for the third time in her career and for the second consecutive year. Tsion led from start to finish without anyone to challenge her but still managed to run a meet record. The region runner-up is teammate, Emily Faulhaber ’20.
The boys’ team finished as third in the region and qualify to compete for the state championship for the ninth time in the last 11.

Gaby Ortega ’19 led the way placing 13 overall out of 128 runners.
The FHSAA cross country state championship meet will be held on Saturday, November 10 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.
