Upper School Replacement “LEED” Projects – April 2010

Watch computer generated fly-over

Pine Crest School at the Ft. Lauderdale Campus will be formed anew with the creation of a new centralized Upper School Building at the southern façade of the campus.  The existing Upper School facilities, including the current A-Wing and Student Services Buildings will be removed to make way for a new classroom and assembly facility designed specifically for the upper grade levels within the campus.  The building’s form and placement will allow it to address the public street side to the south, Cypress Creek Road, while clearly defining a boundary for the enhanced protection of students.  The building’s location places students in direct proximity to all the school’s supporting program areas.  The campus organization and circulation patterns will be altered with the relocation of the Upper School drop off loop road.  This access road currently surrounds the Student Services Building for drop off and entry to the athletic center entry court.  The relocation of the access points and drop off areas at the southern perimeter along Cypress Creek Road removes vehicular and pedestrian crossing creating a pedestrian friendly campus.

Chiller Plant Building Project – April 2010

The new 4,200 square foot Chiller Plant Building Project at the Ft. Lauderdale Campus houses three new 750 ton high efficiency chillers and three new cooling towers.  The new plant is connected to the existing campus buildings by almost 7,000 feet of underground chilled water distribution piping.   The new building construction and the underground piping were completed in November 2009 by State Contracting and Engineering Corporation while the campus was in use by students, parents, faculty and staff.  The Chiller Plant Building has achieved LEED Gold Certification for New Construction by the U.S. Green Building Council and has the honor of being the first building in the City of Ft. Lauderdale to achieve LEED certification of any level in the New Construction category.  It is also the first Pine Crest LEED Certified non-academic building.   RMF Engineering Inc. for Mount Pleasant, S.C. was the lead design firm and Zyscovich Architects in Miami was the project architect.
