Peruvian Artifacts Come to Pine Crest

“These things make me feel close to Peru,” says Ines, who is anxious to visit Peru, her dad’s country. “I’m glad I was able to share our things with my class.” Social Science teacher Cliff Page’s class is studying the Age of Exploration. As part of the discussion, his class looked at the conquest of the Aztec and Incan empires. Ines’ artifacts have allowed students to see and touch authentic items from a time before Europeans made a significant impact in the Americas. “Any time the kids get excited about something like this, I let them run with it as these connections make for meaningful learning,” says Page. “This gives a student a chance to look more closely into his or her family and heritage and ultimately builds self esteem.”
