Ninth Graders Place Second in Physics Bowl

The Pine Crest Physics Honors class recently competed in the American Association of Physics Teachers PHYSICS BOWL 2008 for first year physics students. The Physics Bowl competes by region, Pine Crest's region includes all of Florida as well as Georgia and South Carolina. The sum of the top four student scorers represents the score for the school. The top scores for Pine Crest came from ninth graders Jake Toffler, Eric Shullman, Jacob Drucker, and John Tighe. Pine Crest earned SECOND IN THE REGION after winning a tie breaker which goes to the school with the highest individual score. John Tighe's score of 24 edged out the competition.

Though "Physics First" is a growing movement, still close to 80% of independent schools and well over 90% of public schools are still teaching biology first. So it should be noted that these ninth graders competed against a vast majority of 11th and 12th graders to earn their title. Congratulations to the high scorers as well as the rest of the Physics Honors class that competed so well in this event.
