Inside College Counseling

College Counseling at Pine Crest strives to match students with the college or university that is most suited to their interests and goals. Starting in January of their junior year, students and parents will be assigned an individual college counselor. With extensive experience, our seven college counselors provide insightful perspective into the world of college admission; our staff includes counselors who worked in the Admission Offices at Beloit, Bentley, Haverford, and Le Moyne Colleges. The counselors continue to hone their knowledge of college admission by active participation in regional and national associations, including a counselor who served as President of the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Counselors also regularly visit colleges and universities around the country and have recently organized and accompanied students on college trips to the New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C. and North Carolina areas.

Our counselors work hard to help students and families make informed decisions about colleges and prepare their applications. To this end, technology has provided access to a myriad of communication tools and information sources. The College Counseling Office organizes statistical application histories through TCCi by Naviance. Furthermore, students and parents are included on e-mail lists managed by the office and have password-protected access to a Family Connection Account through which they can organize the college search.

Throughout the school year, the College Counseling Office offers various programs to help prepare high school students and their parents for the college selection and admission process. For example, in the fall, the Parents' Association and College Counseling Office sponsor a Fair for Four Year Colleges. One of the largest college fairs in the southeast, this fair annually attracts over one hundred seventy-five admission officers from colleges throughout the United States and world. Furthermore, during the Junior Symposium in January, ten Directors of Admission discuss topics and current trends in admission with students and their parents. Some of the recent participants in this program have included the Directors of Admission from Cornell University, Yale University, Northwestern University, Emory University, University of Florida, University of Miami, Lehigh University, Brown University and George Washington University. Additionally, a partial list of programs the Office has recently sponsored includes:

Mock Application Committee Workshop for sophomores and parents
